1. Should we wash our hands after touching contaminated things or using the bathroom? Is Marie's concern understandable?
-Of course, we should wash our hands after touching contaminated things or using the bathroom. Marie’s concern is understandable but in order for her to have a better life, she should be less conscious of her sanitation.
2. Diagnosis?
-Marie has OCD (Obsessive Compulsive Disorder) towards sanitation. Her obsession with washing hands can easily distract her from ordinary activities.
3. Treatment?
-She should be treated with the exposure therapy in which she would be exposed to an unsanitary environment and would be continually treated with this procedure until her fear of contamination from physical contact diminishes.
a) systematic desensitization: show pictures (dirt, etc) -become familiar with those conditions, and then finally be exposed to the real unhygienic environment.
b) benzodiazepines, anti-depressant, non-benzodiazepines
